भारत विविध भौगोलिक परिस्थितियों वाला देश है, जहाँ समय-समय पर विभिन्न प्रकार की प्राकृतिक एवं मानवजनित आपदाएँ होती रहती हैं। बाढ़, भूकंप, चक्रवात, सूखा, भूस्खलन, महामारी, औद्योगिक दुर्घटनाएँ तथा अग्निकांड जैसी घटनाएँ न केवल जन-धन की हानि करती हैं बल्कि प्रभावित व्यक्तियों के जीवन, आजीविका व मौलिक अधिकारों पर भी गंभीर प्रभाव डालती हैं।
इसी उद्देश्य की पूर्ति हेतु राष्ट्रीय विधिक सेवा प्राधिकरण (NALSA) द्वारा "Legal Services to Disaster Victims Scheme" लागू की गई है, जिसके माध्यम से आपदा पीड़ितों को निःशुल्क विधिक सेवाएँ प्रदान की जाती हैं।

POCSO अधिनियम बच्चों के विरुद्ध होने वाले विभिन्न प्रकार के यौन अपराध परिभाषित है तथा उनके लिए कठोर दंड का प्रावधान करता है। यह कानून बाल हितैषी (Child-Friendly) प्रक्रिया पर विशेष बल देता है ताकि पीड़ित बच्चे को न्यायिक प्रक्रिया के दौरान कम से कम मानसिक आघात पहुंचे।
